Asten Group
The Dietrich V. Asten scholarship was established in 1985 by the Asten Group in memory of the late Mr. Dietrich V. Asten.
Dietrich V. Asten was born in Belgium in 1922 and educated in Germany, Belgium, and Scotland. In 1950, he came to the United States where he joined the Philadelphia-based Asten-Hill Manufacturing Company, the leading manufacturer of dryer felts and fabrics for paper machines. He became the president of Asten-Hill in 1960. Under his leadership, the Asten Group grew from a one product manufacturing company to a multidivisional, international corporation with nine manufacturing plants in four countries offering total length clothing for paper machines. Due to his international background, he had a great sensitivity to human needs and aspirations. He provided a working environment within the company that allowed and encouraged a high degree of human freedom and personal development.
