Aubrey Wiggins

Our father, Carlyle Aubrey Wiggins, Jr., was born and raised in Kinston, NC. He graduated from NC State College with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1944. He was an application engineer with General Electric’s Charleston, WV office for over 30 years. He died in 1996. Our mother, Iris Smith Wiggins, was born in Harrisonburg, VA and received her RN degree at Lenoir Memorial Hospital in Kinston, NC in 1944. She was a loving and supportive mother to four children (Sally Marie Wiggins Robinson, Daniel Ira Wiggins, Linda Iris Wiggins Vinson, and C. Aubrey Wiggins, III). She was a hospital nurse and devoted much of her life to many volunteer agencies (church, White Cross, nursing home support, city beautification via gardening, and others). Sally is retired after a career in social work at a senior care center in Washington, PA where she lives. She graduated from Marshall University. Dan is a retired General Electric aircraft engine design engineer living in Cincinnati, OH. He spent his first three semesters of college at NCSU before joining the US Air Force and later graduating from WVIT. Linda recently retired after 30 plus years as a Registered Nurse in Greenville, NC. She lives in Murfreesboro, NC, but spends significant time at our childhood home in Dunbar, WV. I (Aubrey, III) retired recently from a 43 plus year career in public health and live in Raleigh, NC. I graduated from NCSU in 1969 with a degree in Applied Math and a minor in Genetics.

Impact

Our mother, Iris Smith Wiggins, wanted to honor her husband’s name with a scholarship to support NCSU engineering students with a 3.0 or higher high school GPA and a financial need. Because of our mother’s deep involvement in volunteerism, we requested that the selected students also have some history of volunteerism in high school. I feel that rewarding students with these characteristics is very positive for our nation and the world. It is a source of pride for our family to know that future NCSU Engineering students will benefit from our mother’s generosity.
