Barbara H. Mulkey/James W. Mulkey
As the founder of a civil engineering consulting firm, I consider it critical for those aspiring to leadership in his or her career to understand the importance of values-based leadership. All of the experience and intellect in the world is worth little unless paired with ethics and values. It has been an honor to attach my name to that of my greatest mentor, General Hugh Shelton, who stands for all of the values to which I aspire.
Impact
I graduated from NC State with Bachelors and Masters degrees in Civil Engineering. This followed the footsteps of my father, who graduated on the GI Bill in Agriculture Education from NC State after serving in WWII as a flight engineer and top turret gunner on a B-24. My husband Jim also attended NC State, and most recently, our daughter graduated from the Poole College of Management. We have been blessed and love the opportunity to give back.
