David Fox

The Jerry H. Fox Scholarship was established in 2013 by David Fox in memory of his father, Jerry H. Fox.

Originally from Roxboro, North Carolina, Jerry Fox attended NC State on the Pat Brown Lumber Company scholarship and graduated from the College of Natural Resources in 1960 with a BS in Wood Technology. During his undergraduate years, Jerry was an active member of the Forestry Club, the Forest Products Research Society, and Xi Sigma Pi forestry society. After graduation, Jerry was an accomplished banker and entrepreneur, as well as a proud husband and father.

David Fox received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from NC State in 1994 and his M.B.A. in 1999 from UNC-Chapel Hill. While at NC State, he was a member of the Men’s Varsity Swimming Team. He served as Team Captain in 1993, was awarded Team MVP in 1991, 1992, 1993, ACC MVP in 1991, 1993, NC State Athletic Director’s Medallion of Excellence for Scholarship, Service, and Athletics in 1993, and was the 1993 NCAA men’s 50-yard freestyle champion. He was a 1996 Olympic Gold Medalist in the 4×100 meter freestyle relay and earned sixth place in the 50-meter freestyle. He is a former world record holder for the 4×100 meter freestyle relay (set at the Pan Pacific Games in 1995), was the third fastest American in history in the 50-meter freestyle as well as the world’s fastest according to 1995 World Ranking, is a six times United States National Champion, and won four gold medals and one games record at the 1993 World University Games. He was presented the Key to the City of Raleigh by Mayor Tom Fetzer in 1996 and received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine from NC Governor James B. Hunt, Jr.
