DeEtte DuBois Gray
DeEtte DuBois Gray (Education ’91) is President of Business and Information Technology Solutions for CACI International Inc. Ms. Gray leads a business that focuses on the delivery of Informal Technology (IT) modernization which enables military and federal government agencies to meet their mission demands and operation capabilities. She possesses an exceptional track record of developing strong customer relationships while perpetuating a culture of inclusion, teamwork, education, and innovation.
Before joining CACI, Ms. Gray served as President of BAE Systems’ Intelligence & Security sector for five years delivering on a broad range of solutions and services, including information technology, intelligence analysis, cyber operations, and systems engineering. Prior to this, Ms. Gray spent 13 years at Lockheed Martin in positions of increasing responsibilities including serving in a corporate position where she helped architect the corporate strategic plan and led development of the company’s IT and Homeland Security strategies.
A native of Morganton, North Carolina, Ms. Gray was always drawn to math and science all throughout her early education. She only applied to one university – NC State – because she knew she wanted to work in the field of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Funding for her education was a challenge; however, Ms. Gray was able to attend NC State and make her dream come true through a combination of hard work, loans, work-study jobs, and some family assistance. Within the College of Education, she focused on middle schools where she felt she could make the most positive impact on students prior to high school.
DeEtte taught science and math for five years, incorporating computers in her middle grade classrooms and helping other educators integrate computers into their curriculum as well. Her career focus changed when a classroom visitor later offered her an opportunity in a private industry. It was then that she moved to the next step in her career. DeEtte contends nothing has prepared her more in her current career than the time she spent in a classroom focusing on education, collaboration, and motivating others to excel to their best potential.
DeEtte later earned a Master of Science degree from East Carolina in ’97. One of her personal memorable highlights was when she was asked to return to NC State to give the commencement address to the College of Education. Among DeEtte’s many accomplishments and accolades is a pattern of her continued advocacy for STEM education. She is passionate about encouraging students to pursue STEM fields and recognizes the increasing need for such skills in American industries. She notes that a solution is to expose more children to the right skills and opportunities at an early age and teachers are vital to make that happen.
DeEtte is married to her best friend, John Gray, who is also a North Carolina native and a graduate of East Carolina University. Both still have family residing in North Carolina and return frequently to enjoy all it has to offer. The Grays share an appreciation for the importance of scholarships that can assist in reducing the financial burden of attending college. The goal of NC State’s Extraordinary Opportunity Scholarship Initiative is to offer more need-based scholarships across campus, expanding affordability and access for North Carolina Students.
