Douglas L. and Danielle M. Mehlenbacher
Douglas L. Mehlenbacher (Paper Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering ’11) and his wife, Danielle M. Mehlenbacher, knew early on that they wanted to do something special to give back to the Wolfpack at NC State University. Through the financial support of his parents, paid
engineering internships each summer, and the scholarships awarded by the Paper Science and Engineering program, Doug was able to graduate debt-free and begin work immediately building his career and his legacy. It became obvious that the best way to give back was to pay it
forward in-kind through establishing a paper science scholarship of their own – and the earlier the better!
Doug attended NC State as an in-state student from rural eastern North Carolina, where his father worked in the hog industry supporting commercial farmers throughout the state. When it was time for college, Doug applied only to NC State’s chemical engineering program, and
almost surely never would have heard of paper science and engineering if it weren’t for the generous and passionate staff and faculty – and their ability to recruit him with a scholarship exactly like this one. Years later, after operating within the specialty chemicals manufacturing industries for some
time and picking up an MBA from the University of Florida along the way in 2015, Doug and Dani began seeking new ventures in Jacksonville, Florida, and raising a family together.
It is their wish that this scholarship helps launch another enterprising member of the Wolfpack successfully into the world to achieve their personal and professional dreams.
