Dr. and Mrs. Roger McCraw
Dr. Roger L. McCraw retired from the NC State’s Department of Animal Science in September 2009; he had served as an outstanding extension specialist, teacher and administrator. Dr. McCraw received undergraduate degrees in Dairy Science and Vocational Agricultural Education and a MS degree in Vocational Education from Virginia Tech. He completed a MS degree in 1977 and a PhD in 1980 from NC State, both in Animal Genetics with minors in statistics and agricultural economics. While at NC State, he served as Extension Animal Husbandry Specialist, Executive Director of the Beef Improvement Federation, Executive Director of the NC Cattlemen’s Foundation and Head of the Department of Animal Science. He married Phyllis Russell of Lowgap, NC in 1969. Phyllis McCraw earned a BA in English from Radford University and a MA degree in Linguistics at UNC-Chapel Hill. She taught English at Campbell University and in 1997, joined the faculty at Southeastern College at Wake Forest where she served as an English professor until her retirement in 2006. They have a daughter and son. Their daughter is a NC State graduate and their son is a graduate of Campbell University.
