Dr. Carl L. Bumgardner
When I was a small boy I lost both my parents and my sister Myrtle became the principal
architect of my upbringing. Her unselfish devotion to this task instilled in me an appreciation of
education and a thirst for learning. As an adult I was the beneficiary of a loving companionship
with Ann, my wife of 58 years. Her legacy includes five sons, seven grandchildren, and at this
point, five great grandchildren plus a grateful husband. So I am pleased to pay tribute to Ann
Bumgardner and Myrtle Bumgardner with the establishment of this endowment. I hope that it
will not only assist students as they develop their academic careers but will also give the
recipients some of the joy present in the creation of this gift.
