Dr. Lee V. Stiff
Dr. Lee Stiff serves as Associate Dean for Faculty and Academic Affairs in the College of Education at NC State, a position he began in 2018 after serving as Interim Associate Dean for Academic Affairs the previous year. Since 1998, he has also been a Professor of Mathematics Education in the college’s Department of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education. He has served on the Board of the College of Education since 2017.
Early in his career, Dr. Stiff taught mathematics in Hertford and Wake counties, and has held numerous positions teaching mathematics at the college level at UNC Charlotte and NC State. He is also a past President of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), and former math instructor at Inroads of Charlotte, Inc.
Dr. Stiff received his Bachelor’s in Mathematics from UNC Chapel Hill in 1971, Master’s of Mathematics from both Pennsylvania State University (1972) and Duke University (1974), and his Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from NC State in 1978.
Impact
In 1995, Dr. Stiff created the Agnes and Garfield Stiff Endowment, which supports graduate students in STEM Education by facilitating their ability to attend conferences and events through which they can share research. The endowment was created in honor of his parents, who believed in the value of education for all.
