Dr. James Ray Harris, DVM, Professor Emeritus and retired NC State Extension Veterinarian chose to honor the distinguished career of the late Dr. Henry W. Garren. Dr. Garren, a native of Hendersonville, NC, was a 1949 alumnus of NC State University serving on both the physiology faculty and as Head of the Department of Poultry Science. He received the Poultry Science Research Award in 1953 and authored or coauthored more than 40 scientific publications. He was a member of numerous professional and honorary groups and was selected as Man of the Year in Georgia Agriculture in 1973 after serving as Dean and Coordinator of the College of Agriculture at the University of Georgia at Athens.
