Dr. Steve Leath

Dr. Steve Leath was raised in Minnesota and Pennsylvania and holds a BS in Plant Science from Penn State, a MS in Plant Science from the University of Delaware, and a PhD in Plant Pathology from the University of Illinois. His scientific expertise is in genetics of disease resistance in cereal crops. He was employed on the NC State campus for many years by the US Department of Agriculture as a research scientist and then as a Research Leader. In 2001, he joined NC State in the Agricultural Research Service where he served as Associate Dean and Director. He is then served as Vice President of Research at UNC General Administration. As of 2012, Dr. Leath because president of Iowa State University. Janet A. Leath, a native of New York, earned a BS in Plant Science from the University of Delaware. She worked in agricultural research and as a sales representative in the pharmaceutical industry. Since 1991, she has owned and operated a State Farm Insurance agency. They have been married since 1981 and have farmed together since 1987. They raise fraser fir Christmas trees and Angus cattle with their two sons.
