Drs. James and Diana Oblinger
A tenured professor in Food Science, Dr. Oblinger has served as NC State’s 13th Chancellor, Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and Associate Dean and Director of Academic Programs for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. He came to NC State University in 1986 from the College of Agriculture at the University of Missouri-Columbia where he served as Associate Dean and Director of Resident Instruction. Dr. Oblinger is an expert in the microbiology of red meats and poultry, decontamination techniques, and foodborne pathogens. He earned his bachelor’s degree in bacteriology at DePauw University, and both a master’s degree and Ph.D. in Food Technology at Iowa State University. He and his wife, Dr. Diana G. Oblinger, have four sons. Dr. Diana G. Oblinger is President and CEO of EDUCAUSE, and is responsible for the association’s teaching and learning activities. EDUCAUSE is a nonprofit association whose mission is to advance higher education by promoting the intelligent use of information technology. She also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Adult and Community College Education and an Adjunct Professor of Crop Science at North Carolina State University. She received her bachelor’s degree in Botany, her master’s degree in Plant Breeding, and her Ph.D. in Plant Breeding and Cytogenetics from Iowa State University.
