Erskine J. and Sue W. Brickhouse

The Erskine J. and Sue W. Brickhouse Endowed Scholarship was established in 1989 by the late Sue Brickhouse May and J. Milton May, in memory of Sue’s parents. Erskine was a farmer in Tyrell County and Sue W. taught school and was a homemaker in Columbia, NC. The endowment was established to provide scholarships for Paper Science and Engineering students, with consideration to students from Tyrell County and surrounding counties.

Their daughter, Sue was a graduate of Women’s College in Greensboro (now UNC-G) and returned home to teach high school in Columbia. She soon joined the North Carolina Agricultural Extension Service, working as a home extension agent in Lenoir and Pitt counties. In Pitt County, she met and married J. Milton May. The two were avid NC State fans and strong supporters of education throughout their lives.
