Family and Friends of William E. Caldwell
The William E. Caldwell Endowed Scholarship was established in 1973 by his late wife and friends in memory of the late Mr. Caldwell.
William E. Caldwell was a native of Belleville, New Jersey. He obtained a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Virginia. At the time of his death, he was president of St. Regis Paper Company. During his 33 year tenure with the company, he served in many capacities and in several divisions including: manager of the Panelyte plant in Trenton, NJ; the printing paper mill in Kalamazoo, MI, resident manager of the Kraft Center at Pensacola, FL and vice president and general manager of the Cornell Paperboard Products Division in Milwaukee, WI. In 1963, Mr. Caldwell was named general sales manager of the Kraft Division.
In 1964, he was given responsibility for all domestic sales of kraft paper and board for St. Regis. In 1965, he was appointed vice president of St. Regis and made general manager of the Kraft Division. He assumed additional responsibilities for the Printing paper, Howard Paper and Rhinelander divisions in 1968. He was appointed executive vice president-operations in April 1969 and was named a director of the company in January, 1971. Mr. Caldwell was also a director of Southland Paper Mills, Inc., Lufkin, TX and the American Paper Institute.
