Hazard H and Ada Credle May
The Hazard H and Ada Credle May Endowed Scholarship was established in 1988 by the late J. Milton and Sue B. May. Hazard was a farmer and lived outside of Winterville (Pitt County) his entire life, except for the time he served in WW I. Ada, originally from Swan Quarter, met and married Hazard, and moved to Pitt County where they raised three children. The endowment was established to provide scholarships for Paper Science and Engineering students, with consideration to students from Pitt County and surrounding counties.
Their son, Milton earned a BS degree from NC State (Agronomy-Field Crops) in 1949 after serving two years in WW II in the US Army as a Combat Engineer. Milton returned home where met and married Sue Brickhouse. He farmed and taught Diversified Occupations until retiring in 1981. Milton and Sue were avid NC State fans and strong supporters of education.
