J. Milton and Sue B. May
The John Milton May, Jr. Endowed Scholarship was established by the late J. Milton and Sue B. May in 1985. Sue was a graduate of Women’s College (now UNC-G) and Milton graduated from NC State in 1949 with a BS in Agronomy-Field Crops. Sue retired from the North Carolina Agricultural Extension Service after a long career. Milton retired from teaching in 1981 but was a lifelong farmer, other than the time he served with the US Army in WW II. The endowment was established to provide scholarships for Paper Science and Engineering students. Milton and Sue were impressed with the quality and practicality of the PSE program and wanted to help young people obtain a good education in a rewarding field.
Their son, John, graduated from NC State with a BS in Pulp & Paper Science & Technology in 1977. After a rewarding career in the paper industry, John retired in 2018. He and his wife, Jeannie live in Wilmington. They are both avid NC State fans and are strong supporters of education, as were John’s parents.
