James Speed Williams

James Speed Williams was a graduate of the NC School of Engineering in 1960. He was employed by Duke Power for several years and then started his own company, Williams Electric Company in Shelby, NC. His company grew to over 350 employees and his company served NC, SC, Virginia and many others states. He was married to Hilda and had 3 children Carlyle, Elizabeth and Danny. He also had 16 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

James Speed served in the Air Force for 4 years. He was active in his hometown Shelby community, serving on many boards like Boys and Girls Club for over 40 years, was a member of the Rotary Club, and an active member of First Baptist Church of Shelby. His greatest love was his family and he loved traveling, camping, hiking, water and snow skiing and was an avid golfer, runner, and fisherman! He enjoyed time mostly with his family and friends and was beloved in his community in Shelby, NC. He was also a member of the NC STATE Wolfpack Club for over 40 years and was a huge Wolfpack Fan!!
