About North Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives: North Carolina’s 26 electric cooperatives serve more than 2.5 million people in 93 of the state’s 100 counties. Each cooperative is private, not-for-profit and governed by a board of directors, which is elected by the membership. Electric cooperatives adhere to seven cooperative principles one of which is commitment to education. Our NCSU engineering scholarship is a demonstration of that commitment.
Impact
North Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives established the scholarship in the late 1980s to provide financial support to students pursuing engineering majors. Building our relationship with NCSU and the College of Engineering and ultimately the students has proven to be a successful partnership in the development of engineering talent for North Carolina.
