The Drexel “Rex” Kermit Smith, Jr. / Ben Franklin Scholarship was established in August 1989. The many friends of, The East Group on Kinston, NC and Dr. and Mrs. Kermit Smith created this scholarship in memory of their son, Drexel “Rex” Kermit Smith, Jr., who was an alumnus of NC State, having a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, class of 1986.
