Kathy Gruer
Born in England, Brian Shawcroft studied architecture in London and holds a Masters of Architecture degree from MIT. Dean Henry Kamphoefner invited him to come teach at the School of Design during the 1960s. He served as a associate professor for eight years, and another twelve years a a lecturer. Along with teaching, Shawcroft also practiced architecture in North Carolina for over 30 years, winning many awards for his designs including the the prestigious Kamphoefner Prize by the North Carolina Architecture Foundation for his contribution to the modern movement in architecture.
Impact
Brian Shawcroft, a former professor of the School of Architecture, hopes that this prize recognizes and encourages the skill of architectural drawing by hand.
