Leonard Kilian
The Leonard A. Kilian, Jr./National Association of State Foresters Foundation Scholarship Endowment was established in 1999 by Leonard Killian and the National Association of State Foresters Foundation (NASFF).
A native of North Carolina, Leonard Kilian earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest management from North Carolina State University. He served with the North Carolina Forest Service for 21 years, beginning as a forest technician. In 1967, he was promoted to the Raleigh office as a staff Forester in administration. His roles expanded to senior staff Forester in charge of fire prevention, fire control and law enforcement. In 1978 he took over as the state Forester of South Carolina. Kilian was especially active in the Society of American Foresters. He has represented the state Foresters in plans for the National Fire Prevention campaign and was active in the affairs of the Southern Group of State Foresters. Kilian also served as president of the National Association of State Foresters. Additionally, he is a retired colonel in the US Army Reserve.
