M. Lebby Boinest, Jr. and Mrs. Pat Boinest
The M. Lebby Boinest Endowed Scholarship was established in 1985 by M. Lebby Boinest, Jr. and Mrs. Pat Boinest. The endowment provides scholarships for students majoring in Paper Science and Engineering in the College of Natural Resources at NC State.
M. Lebby Boinest graduated from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute (commonly known as Virginia Tech) in 1941, where he studied chemical engineering. He served in the Army Signal Corps in Europe during World War II. After the war, he worked for over 30 years in the paper industry, beginning with Albemarle Paper Company in Richmond and ending with Champion International Corporation in Roanoke Rapids. He retired as vice president and resident manager of the Roanoke Rapids Mill.
Mr. Boinest served as the chairman of the Pulp and Paper Foundation at NC State, chairman of the Halifax Memorial Hospital Board, was a member of the Roanoke Rapids City School Board, and a senior warden and vestry member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Roanoke Rapids. He passed away in December of 2001.
