N.C. State University has been an important part of my life since 1975. In particular, the College of Engineering and the Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering Department continue to be an integral component of my professional life. In addition to my academic experience, I have had the good fortune to continue to be involved with the college and the department in a number of ways through departmental advisory board leadership and participation, guest lectures, interaction with graduate student teams and as a practitioner in residence, to name a few. In addition to involvement with N. C. State, the solid education I received there gave me the platform from which to build a rewarding career in construction, engineering and general management. I have been able to travel and deliver projects all over the world, reach executive levels of general management in construction and engineering early in my career and become involved in professional organizations at high levels. Those experiences with professional organizations included being chair of the Industry Advisory Council for ABET and being Vice Chair of the Construction Engineering Committee for NCEES. In short, the education I received from N. C. State put me in a position to experience a rewarding professional career and, in turn, provide a comfortable lifestyle for our family.

Impact

I owe a great deal to the school and to the engineering profession. It would have been difficult for me to attend N. C. State had I not had some financial assistance through partial scholarships and work-study opportunities. In a small way, establishing this scholarship is an expression of my deep gratitude for the assistance that I received. More importantly, my hope is that this scholarship will give students in need of similar assistance an opportunity that they might not otherwise have.
