Mr. and Mrs. David N. Canady, Mr. Andrew M. Canady
Richard Canady was born in 1978 and grew on a family farm near Parkton, NC. After high school, he attended NC State and in 2002, earned Bachelor of Science degrees in both Forest Management and Agricultural Business Management. As an undergraduate, he was also a member of Alpha Zeta Honor Fraternity. After graduation, he maintained on-going connections with some of the faculty at NC State. In 2003, he earned a Master’s degree in Agribusiness Management at Mississippi State University. After graduation, he worked for the NC Department of Natural Resources and then as an agronomist with the Universal Leaf North America in Nashville, NC. In 2005, he started his own farming operation raising soybeans while still working full time for University Leaf. In June of 2006, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He passed away on May 26, 2007. In his 28 years, he lived a full and active life. He valued family, his home, and friends, and had the remarkable ability to develop and maintain relationships. His parents and brother set up this scholarship in order to provide continual financial support to those students, like Richard, who value and appreciate agriculture and who are pursing this field of study at NC State. They believe he would be proud of this legacy.
