Mr. and Mrs. Patrick C. Bristow
Kevin Bristow was born June 13, 1989 in Norfolk, Virginia to Patrick Collier Bristow and Jacalyn James Bristow. Kevin attended elementary school in Virginia and in Wilmington, North Carolina. He graduated from Ashley High School in Wilmington in 2007 and was off to the only school he ever really considered, North Carolina State University. Kevin lived on campus for the first two years and was immersed in the total college experience, taking in all that campus life had to offer. In addition to doing well in his studies, he reveled in the myriad of sports activities the Triangle had to offer from Wolfpack football, basketball and Carolina Hurricanes hockey games. He also had a lifelong love of NFL football and had been attending Miami Dolphins’ games since the age of eight or nine and had travelled to see them play at half of the NFL stadiums. Also during his time at NCSU, Kevin took advantage of the study abroad program, traveling to China for a six week program that provided engineering studies as well as cultural and sightseeing experiences. He also interned in the Raleigh area for a semester each of his last two years, working in the construction engineering world that he came to love.
Kevin graduated with a BS in Civil Engineering with a minor in Business Administration in December of 2012. Upon graduation Kevin moved to Houston, Texas to embark on his career in construction engineering. In his three plus years in the industry, Kevin impacted the lives of hundreds of co-workers as evidenced by the outpouring of tributes communicated to his parents by his colleagues and associates. He also touched the lives of countless friends in the NC State Engineering community, many of whom traveled to see him in Houston to take in the big city life he so loved.
In the month before his passing, he took his dream trip to Australia and New Zealand, sending back pictures ranging from a helicopter tour of the twelve apostles, bungee jumping into a river from a forty five meter high bridge to courtside, opening day at the Australian Open. He truly never met a stranger and could, and would talk to anyone about anything from sports to work to life. Several of his parents’ friends would confide that they lived vicariously through Kevin by following him on Facebook, always wanting to talk about his last trip or adventure.Kevin passed away on January 26, 2016 at the age of 26 due to a work accident, leaving countless friends and relatives with a hollow feeling for a life unfulfilled. However, his parents feel that since he touched so many people in life, that it is only fitting that his legacy live on through the scholarship program and helps provide assistance to young men and women as they pursue their goals and dreams for higher education and life. We also want to thank the staff at North Carolina State University for helping to make this a reality. The best of luck to all who benefit from this scholarship from this day forward!
