Mr. and Mrs. Zack Ladd

Mr. and Mrs. Zack Ladd established this scholarship endowment to encourage young people to enter the field of Agricultural Education. This endowment is used to provide scholarships to promising students majoring in Agricultural Education or any agricultural curriculum with preference to students from Yadkin County, NC. Mr. Ladd, a 1958 alumnus of the Agricultural Education program at NC State, worked with the Soil Conservation Service and then taught school both at the high school and community college level. He worked for the Yadkin County Farm Bureau and NC Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company for 34 years until his retirement. He has served as chair of the Yadkin County NC State Alumni Association and Wolfpack Club and is past president of the Alumni and Friends Society in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Mrs. Mary Ladd, known as the “Rose Lady” is a survivor of cancer, who after spending 18 years in the medical field and raising three children on the family farm, continues to volunteer with Cancer Services. She also raises beautiful roses which she gives to shut-ins, hospital patients, rest home residents, and others—all donated in love. She has been honored by receiving the Governor’s Award for Hospice and and also by Cancer Services specifically for her work with them. They both also manage their 300 acre farm and raise soybeans, timber, and vegetables which are shared with friends and fill their freezers. Zack and Mary live in Blowing Rock and Yadkinville.
