The will of Olaf Wakefield to recognizes undergraduates in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences & recognizes active Alpha Zeta Fraternity members at NC State University. Selection is made by the NC Chapter of Alpha Zeta and scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic achievement and leadership potential. Mr. Wakefield was Assistant Statistician in Charge of the North Carolina Crop Reporting Service when he retired in February, 1970. He was born in Alabama in 1910, received an undergraduate degree (with honors) from North Carolina State University in 1934, and returned to Raleigh in 1937. Upon returning, he earned a Master of Science degree in Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology. While at NC State, Mr. Wakefield was an assistant in farm management. During his career, Mr. Wakefield also worked for the Federal Emergency Relief Administration (Georgia), the Sugar Division of USDA (Louisiana, Colorado, and Minnesota), and the Farmers Home Administration.
