Mr. & Mrs. Mark Carter

Mr. & Mrs. Mark Carter

As a native North Carolinian, I have an avid appreciation for this great state and the opportunities it has afforded me. Being the youngest of seven children created an early appreciation for overcoming economic challenges through hard work and diligence. While my family did not have financial resources to fund my education, I am thankful that I still had the interest and passion to pursue higher education. As a solution to help finance my educational endeavors, my journey included joining the Marine Corps, where I was honored to serve my country for four years. Afterwards, Dr. William T. Easter, former associate department head for NC State’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, recognized something in me that others did not and afforded me an opportunity by admitting me into the department. For this I am forever indebted to Dr. Easter and NC State. My desire is to help veterans with similar circumstances accomplish their goals.

Impact

As founder and general manager of Wells Global, I am in a position to make a meaningful investment and would like to celebrate the people and experiences that I attribute for my success in life. Therefore, the Mary Gammon Carter Scholarship Endowment in the College of Engineering will honor my mother, veterans, and NC State. This scholarship endowment fund is being named for my mother who made the ultimate investment in my life and positioned me to be the person I am today. The Mary Gammon Carter Scholarship is a tribute to all veteran students that have served our country proudly and just need an opportunity. Finally, this scholarship honors my NC State engineering education, which propelled my career and solidified my achievements.
