Mr. & Mrs. Philip S. York

York Family Properties established this scholarship in 1998 in memory of Mr. J. W. “Willie” York. Mr. York is an alumnus of NC State, holding a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with Construction Option, class of 1933. Following WWII, he established J. W. York and Co., now known as York Properties building post-war housing. In 1949, he branched into commercial real estate development, building Cameron Village – one of the first suburban shopping centers in the Southeast – surrounded by 561 apartments and 100 homes. Among his many commercial developments was Raleigh’s first industrial park – York Industrial Park in 1951.
