Mr. Robert F. Bird

The Kenneth P. Dixon Scholarship Committee established this scholarship in 1989. Mr. Dixon is an alumnus of NC State, holding a bachelor’s degree in General Engineering, class of 1949. Throughout his career, Mr. Dixon regulated the fire safety for all new public buildings in North Carolina, working closely with architects, engineers, and the construction industry. He managed the State’s property self-insurance fund and served as risk manager for all state departments, agencies, and institutions. Mr. Dixon was always available to government leaders and fellow employees and, through his innovative ideas and dedication, he has left an everlasting mark on fire safety throughout North Carolina.
