Mr. William C. Creel, II

Mrs. Creel and family established this scholarship in 1978 in memory of W. C. “Billy” Creel. Mr. Creel is an alumnus of NC State, holding a degree in High School Teaching Education, class of 1936. He worked for five years as a teacher and coach at Garner High School. He then joined the State Department of Labor and worked in a series of increasingly responsible positions, culminating in his election as NC Commissioner of Labor in 1972. In the mid 1970’s, Commissioner Creel was awarded the National Safety Council’s highest recognition, the “Distinguished Service to Safety” award, for his life long career in employing safety and health.
