Mr. Joe L. Perry, who in January 2007 was nominated for the award of Edgecombe County Citizen of the Year by James Pearce, then County Extension Director of Edgecombe County and later received this award. His children never knew of his many accomplishments until the time of his nomination for Citizen of the Year at the age of 85. They only knew that he made them feel like he had all the time in the world for them.
