John S. Campbell attended Reading and Cambridge Universities and did graduate work at the Imperial College of Tropical Agriculture in Trinidad, West Indies and Harvard University. His passion for agriculture led to a demand for his services and publications by both the private and public sectors throughout the world. He served as an Adjunct Professor of Crop Science in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. From his retirement as Vice President of Imperial Tobacco until his death at the age of 77, he continued serving his community through a number of professional and civic roles. He was honored with many achievements and awards.
