Mrs. Mary Ruth Hord

This scholarship was provided by Mr. and Mrs. Horace B. Hord of Winston-Salem, with a matching contribution from his employer, Pfizer, Inc., upon his retirement. Horace Blainey Hord, born to Raymond and Dona Hord in Boiling Springs, NC grew up in Boiling Springs and Shelby, NC. After graduation from Shelby High School, he spent nine years working with his father in the automotive repair business, with time out for service in the US Navy. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ruth Dedmon. In 1956, they moved to Raleigh where Mr. Hord attended NC State. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics in 1960. Mr. Hord is very appreciative of the opportunities that his education from NC State afforded him. It is Mr. and Mrs. Hord’s hope that by providing this scholarship funding, they will be able to financially assist other students as they work to complete their degree from NC State University.
