Mrs. Rose Phillips

Ed and Rose Phillips shared a life of love, friendships, and great adventures together. Rose Phillips was inducted into the Professional Floral Commentators International organization. She has been nationally and internationally recognized by the floral trade for her artistry in the area of floral design. A prestigious shop owner, she was active for many years in teaching and demonstrating the art of floral arrangements. She has given seminars at NC State, taught at Johnston County Community College, conducted demonstrations at the NC State Fair’s Horticultural Show, and operated a consulting service in Cary. Among her many credits, Rose arranged flowers for both Bush, Sr.‘s and Clinton’s Presidential Inaugural Balls. She continues to be an active member of her church, the Gardeners of Wake County, and the Retired Military Officers Wives Association. Her husband, Edward E. Phillips, graduated from Purdue University in Horticulture. He joined the Navy and received various campaign ribbons and a Bronze Star before leaving the Navy as a Commander. He went to work for the American Can Company where he worked for 37 years. He was a gentle man who was devoted to Rose and all their many friends. A perfect match, they were both actively involved in the floral industry. Ed Phillips passed away in 1996 and until that day, Rose was Ed’s “Princess”. This scholarship endowment is a legacy that celebrates their love and devotion to each other and it is a testament to a very special couple who have touched so many people’s lives and who will continue to do so in perpetuity through their generous establishment of this scholarship endowment.
