Mr. Rigdon “Bob” Smith was born in Alamance County where he grew up in the farming community of Brown Summit and the Monticello area. After high school, he attended NC State(then “State College”) and went on to serve in the US Air Force for four years. He began his working career in sales for Jackson Beauty Supply with the lifelong dream of becoming a farmer. In order to achieve his dream, he began investing in land and farm equipment and started farming part-time. After 18 years in sales, he devoted himself on a full-time basis to farming and the cattle business. Bob Rigdon loved life and was a friend to everyone who knew him. By establishing this endowment, his family knows that “Bob” will forever be able to reach out and help NC State students obtain their degree from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at NC State.
