Mrs. Virginia Teske Smith
Henry B. Smith established this scholarship in 1985. Before coming to NC State, Dr. Smith helped develop products such as Dial Soap and Maxwell House Instant Coffee. Dr. Smith was assistant professor of Chemical Engineering at Bucknell University from 1941 until 1943, then served as a special projects officer for the US Army from 1943 until 1946. Among other positions he held, Dr. Smith was technical director of engineering research at General Foods Corp. from 1952 until 1957, and director of corporate research planning from 1957 until 1962. For the next three years, he was a vice president at Armour Grocery Products Co., a division of Armour and Co. In 1965, Dr. Smith joined NC State as Associate Dean of Engineering for Research and Graduate Programs and Professor of Chemical Engineering. In 1979 Dr. Smith was named NCSU Vice Provost and Dean for Research.
