Mr. W. B. “Bob” Jenkins was an alumni of NC State who graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy and went on to pursue an over 42 year career in agriculture. He served as President of the NC Farm Bureau from 1985 until finishing a career total of 38 years with the North Carolina Farm Bureau. Over the course of this illustrious career, Mr. Jenkins received many awards for his many achievements for agriculture, a few of which are the NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services “Friend of Agriculture” award, NC State University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences “Distinguished Alumnus for Agriculture” award, NC State University’s “Watauga Medal”, and the National Agriculture Alumni and Development Association “Volunteer Service Award”. Mr. Jenkins was a tireless and effective advocate for agricultural students raising over $15.5 million for student scholarships and fellowships in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Awards are made to students enrolled in traditional ag curricula with preference going to student applicants from farms in rural North Carolina.
