Ms. Brenda Brown

Mr. Smith retired as President of M.G. Newell Company in Greensboro, NC in 1981. As a food industry leader, Mr. Smith was a strong supporter of the Food Science program at NC State University. He received the Food Science Club’s Meritorious Service Award in 1974. He took the lead in encouraging organizations such as M.G. Newell, The Tarheel Supplymen’s Associaition, the NC Dairy Products Association, and the Dairy Foundation to provide financial support to worthy food science students. The Smiths established this scholarship in 1980. It was their hope that this endowment would provide a means of encouraging young people of high moral and human values to prepare for leadership roles in the world and in the dairy and food industries.
