Mr. William R. Winslow, a native of Pasquotank County, arrived in Washington, DC around 1918 to 1919, bought a paint store and invested in real estate, both of which were very successful ventures. He served as a director of the First National Bank of Washington, DC. The bulk of his estate is in a permanent trust with annual earnings going to six colleges and universities for scholarship aid.
