Ms. Patricia H. Bellar
Dr. Virginia Gaylord Ayscue, born in the Terra Ceia Community on July 8, 1919, was the first of her family to attend college. She received her PhD from UNC-Chapel Hill, her MA from ASU and her Bachelor’s degree from UNC-Greensboro. She taught English at Washington High School and was an assistant professor at ECU. She published articles and books and held positions on the local, district and state levels of English and educational professional organizations. Dr. Ayscue had a close friendship with and professional admiration for H.B. and Edna Crumpler of Murfreesboro, NC. H.B. Crumpler, a 1932 Agricultural Education alumnus of NC State, taught Agricultural Education for many years. Coming from an agricultural background herself, Dr. Ayscue sought to honor her long friendship and also encourage young people to enter the field of Agricultural Education by creating this endowment.
