Impact
The Margaret and Tanya Gayle Scholarship was created to honor Pam Jones’ mother, Margaret, and sister, Tanya, for their life-long dedication to the Education profession. Pam writes:
“I remember growing up with a mom who understood the impact of an education, so much so she went back to school after having 3 children to finish her under graduate degree in English with a minor in library science (she always loved books). When we were in high school (4 us of by then), she worked as a Middle School Principal and headed back to college making the long trek to Western Carolina at nights to get her Master’s Degree. They both focus on programs that help to close the achievement gap.
“My sister Tanya is a talented and gifted elementary teacher who understands the art of engaging children where they are, and tailoring activities to their specific interests creating a love for learning. Tanya has made a profound difference in the lives of many young people from her seat in the classroom. She believed in the individual natural gifts of each child, when others might see shortcomings. All children should be so lucky to have a teacher like my sister in their young and impressionable lives.”
The scholarship benefits undergraduate students in elementary education in the College of Education at NC State.
