Phillip S. Rea Endowment for Public Parks
The Phillip S. Rea Endowment for Parks and Recreation was developed on October 1, 2005. The Endowment recognizes Dr. Phil Rea’s contributions to NCSU and the College of Natural Resources. Dr. Rea has co-authored books, monographs and technical reports on natural resource recreation planning and management. He has chaired many master and doctoral degree committees. He has been successful in acquiring several grants for faculty and graduate student research. Among his professional activities, Dr. Rea served as the President and as a member of the board of directors of the Society of Park and Recreation Educators, Governor’s Advisory Board for State Parks, and was the treasurer of the Park Fund Foundation of N.C., Inc. He is a member of the Council on Accreditation sponsored jointly by NRPA and AALR, and past President of the North Carolina Recreation and Park Society. He is one of 125 members of the American Academy of Park and Recreation Administration, which limits educator membership to 24. He has received the Fellow Award from the North Carolina Recreation and Park Society and the Outstanding Alumni Award from the Indiana University Department of Park and Recreation Administration and is a member of the NCSU Academy of Outstanding Teachers.
This is a merit based scholarship that is awarded for one (1) academic year. Scholarship applicants must be undergraduates students enrolled in the Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management curriculum at NCSU.
