President of Food Science Club, Dr. Chris Daubert (Department Head FBNS)
The Food Science Club was founded in 1965, receiving a charter from the Institute of Food Technologists on May 16, 1965. The Club began selling ice cream at the NC State Fair in the 1970’s but after low sales for a number of years of ice cream from other dairies, student obtained permission to sell ice cream made at NC State in 1978 and although the first year was challenging, each day showed improvement. By the end of the fair that year, the legacy of the 30-minute wait was born. The Dairy Bar has come a long way since then, but currently the NCSU Dairy Bar boasts a nearly non-stop line each and every day of the fair. Proceeds from the fundraiser wholly support the functions of the club, providing scholarships, outreach and public service events, social functions and much more.
