The Cape Lookout Shootout king Mackerel Tournament Series
The Cape Lookout Shootout King Mackerel Tournament Series
In memory of
David Pennington
(January 20, 1965-October 16, 2020)
The Cape Lookout Shootout Series was started in 2014 to provide an elite king mackerel tournament where the best of the best compete and provide a positive environment for youth anglers while being recognized and giving back to the community. A portion of the proceeds from the tournament championship go to honor avid fisherman and great friend David Pennington who passed away at the young age of 55. The scholarship fund in his name provides support for students seeking a degree in Fisheries, Wildlife and Conservation Biology (FWCB). The FWCB program’s students are taught how to manage and conserve populations of fish and wildlife in their natural habitats. Students develop conservation strategies that ensure the long-term health of fish and wildlife populations. A healthy fish population ensures that anglers for years to come will have the opportunity to compete in tournaments and enjoy the sport as much as David did.
David graduated from Tarboro High School in 1983 and East Carolina University in 1988. He worked in sales at 70 West Marina and enjoyed boating and fishing multiple king mackerel tournaments. He was a devoted family man who would do anything for his family and friends.
