Kathryn Gooden Best & Marcellus J. Best, Jr. Leadership Scholarship

Merit-based, with need consideration, scholarship is designated for undergraduates in any area of study in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Recipients shall demonstrate leadership potential as defined by the Shelton Leadership Center and shall be eligible for opportunities to participate in the Shelton Leadership Center’s leadership forums and seminars and to serve as peer leaders, coaches, mentors and trainers at summer leadership institutes for high school students. The Donors’ preference is for each award to be approximately $10,000, but the award size may be adjusted by the Foundation to maximize the Fund’s benefit to the university and students. Awards may be used to support tuition, fees and/or books.

Preferences for this award shall include the following:
a. Students in the CALS Honors Program, and
b. Students who demonstrate leadership and community service activities, and
c. Students with a minimum grade point average of 3.5 out of 4.0; and
d. Students who are residents of North Carolina
College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
