Joyce Hall Aspnes Scholarship

Distributions from the Fund will be used to provide merit-based scholarships for undergraduate students in the College of Sciences. Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated interest in equity, diversity or social justice for women by participating in community activities, social groups, student clubs or organizations that support this focus. Additional preference will be given as follows:
For first-year undergraduate students:
a) Students who are pursuing a degree in physics, mathematics or chemistry.
b) Students with a minimum cumulative high school grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent on other grade point scales.
c) Students with a demonstrated interest in sciences.

For students who have previously received the award:
a) Students who are pursuing a degree in physics, mathematics or chemistry.
b) Students who are engaged in research.
Awards will be determined by the Dean of the College of Sciences, or their designee, in accordance with established procedures. Awards will be for one academic year, and may be renewable based on specific criteria being met, including maintaining satisfactory academic progress; the recipient will be informed of the criteria when the award is made.
The Donor’s preference is for awards to be made in recipients’ freshman year and renewed thereafter, such that the Fund provides a minimum of four awards each academic year (i.e. at least one per class year), but the number of awards may be adjusted by the Foundation to maximize the Fund’s benefit to the university and students.
